Genus Leptotyphlops
Leptotyphlops is the type genus for the Slender Blind Snake family, and the genus in which the vast majority of species in this group were once assigned before being moved into several others (though a large number of sites will still refer to those species as being in this genus). Known for being African or Middle Eastern endemics like many of their relatives (though the genus has included species previously from North and South America as well as Asia, including familiar species like the New Mexico Blind Snake), these tiny reptiles are characterized by normally dark coloration, extremely thin bodies, and a penchant for baby ants and termites.
