This is the flower almost constantly mislabeled as Amaryllis in cultivation, hailing from South Africa and growing as large bulbs with huge strap-shaped leaves up to 2 feet in length splaying out on opposite sides. In winter they remain in dry dormancy, but in spring usually alongside the first leaves they will send up 2 foot stalks topped with 1-5 massive, lily-like trumpet flowers facing outward in all directions, sometimes more than 9 inches across. These bulbs may be one of two shades of bright to deep pink.
Available plants are semi-mature to mature bulbs, between 2-4 inches in diameter.
