The red-skinned, white-fleshed Dragonfruit most commonly seen in stores; also sometimes called Selenicereus undatus, this tropical cactus is both fairly easy to grow as well as has potential for incredible flowers and fruits. Plants are climbing, occasionally branching vines lined along their corners (vines usually have 2-4 distinct sides) with clusters of small, fine spines. Best grown on a large trellis where they can get lots of warmth and sun, once plants mature they will form flowers up to 6 inches or more across with spindly yellowish petals, followed by red fruits up to 8 inches long with greenish haphazard bracteoles on the exterior, and a white, kiwi-like flesh inside.
Available plants are multi-branched clusters with vines that may be up to 2 feet long. These break easily, but every pieces readily roots to form new plants.
