Scarlet Sage is a spectacular plant for the garden, particularly in well-drained places where it can freely spread and reseed. Perennial in the warmest zones and a reseeding annual elsewhere, plants can rapidly grow to around 2 feet tall with lush, fragrant leaves topped by spikes of brilliant scarlet tubular flowers that tend to self-pollinate and produce seed readily. Not an edible sage species, but highly ornamental.
